Storage for moving house in Leeds

A drive-up container in Holbeck bridges the awkward part of a move: the chain that breaks, the fortnight between completion and the keys, the downsize where half the furniture has nowhere to go. The removal van reverses to your own door at ground level, and you get in 24/7 from your phone rather than around a reception's hours.

When does a house move need storage?

Household storage during a move is almost always about timing rather than space — the dates do not line up, and your furniture needs somewhere to be for a few weeks. Five situations account for most of it.

The chain breaks

Someone below you pulls out a week before completion. You either lose the house you are buying or you move out on time and put everything somewhere. Storage plus a short stay somewhere is usually cheaper and far less stressful than losing the purchase.

A gap between completion and moving in

Sale completes on the Friday, purchase completes a fortnight later, and in between your belongings need a home. This is the classic case: you want a unit for a month or two, not a year, which is what the half-price-for-6-months founding deal is built for.

Downsizing

The new place is smaller and you are not ready to decide what goes. A 10ft container buys you the time to sell or pass things on properly instead of skipping them in a panic during the move.

Renovating before you move in

Floors coming up, kitchen going in, plasterers everywhere. Furniture in a container is furniture that does not get dust, paint or a dropped joist on it.

Selling an empty house

Estate agents are right that clutter costs offers. Clearing the surplus into storage for the marketing period is a small cost against the difference it makes to viewings.

What size storage unit do you need for your move?

Moving fromSizeWhat it takes
Studio or 1-bed flat10ftBed, sofa, table, white goods, 30–40 boxes
2-bed flat or small house10ft or 20ft10ft for part of it, 20ft for all of it
3-bed house20ftFull contents including wardrobes and appliances
4–5 bed house40ftFull contents plus garage, loft and garden furniture
Downsizing only10ftThe surplus, not the whole house

If you are between two sizes, take the bigger one. The rate difference is smaller than a second van hire, and moving day is not when you want to discover the sofa does not fit. Full details on the size guide.

Why drive-up helps most on moving day

Moving day is the one day the access type genuinely changes your afternoon. With an indoor unit, a van-load comes off onto trolleys, through a door, along a corridor, sometimes into a lift, and the crew charges you for the time. With a drive-up container the van backs up to your door and everything is carried once, straight in.

Two practical notes worth passing to your removal firm: the yard is hardstanding throughout, so a 7.5-tonne van has a solid surface to manoeuvre on, and the unit is at ground level with no step, so a tail-lift is not essential. If your firm is bringing something larger than a 7.5-tonne, email us and we will confirm turning room before the day.

Timing it around your dates

  1. As soon as a date looks likely — register your interest. It costs nothing and holds the founding-member terms, so there is no reason to wait for certainty.
  2. Two to three weeks out — confirm the size with us. This is when most people discover they need the next size up.
  3. The week before — pack the things you will not need first, and label boxes on the side that will face the doors.
  4. Moving day — heavy and low along the back, a centre aisle if you will visit, essentials nearest the doors.
  5. After — 24/7 access means you can chip away at unpacking in evenings rather than booking a day off.

Packing so a container stays dry

Containers are wind- and watertight, but they are not heated, so the one thing to avoid is sealing damp in with your things.

  • Everything bone dry before it goes in — especially washing machines, drain them fully.
  • Pallets or battens under boxes and upholstery rather than straight onto steel.
  • Mattresses and sofas upright against a side wall, covered with breathable covers.
  • Leave a small gap between stacks and the walls so air can move.
  • Nothing perishable, and nothing flammable — the terms will list this properly.

House move storage questions

How much notice do you need before moving day?
Once we are open, as little as we can manage — but the honest answer for now is that we open in autumn 2026, so if your move is before then we are not an option yet. Register anyway: it costs nothing and, if your dates slip past opening, you keep the founding terms.
Can the removal van unload straight into the unit?
Yes — that is the point of drive-up. The van reverses to your door on hardstanding and everything is carried once, with no lift or corridor. Ground level, no step, so no tail-lift needed.
Can I store for just one month?
Short stays are the most common house-move need and we will have a shorter rolling option — the better rates go with longer commitments, as everywhere. For a gap between completions, the half-price-for-6-months founding deal usually works out better than a one-month rate.
Is my furniture insured while it's stored?
Insurance arrangements are confirmed with our rates before opening. Worth checking now whether your existing contents policy covers goods in storage — many do, some only for a limited period, and it is the sort of detail that matters after something goes wrong rather than before.
Can two people access the same unit?
Access is through the app rather than a shared code or a single key, so it is straightforward to have both people in a couple able to get in. Tell us at sign-up.

We open in autumn 2026, so we cannot take a move before then. Register your interest — free, nothing to cancel — and you will have the rates and the exact opening date first.
